Embracing the Journey: On Overcoming Self-Doubt and Reinvention

Hello, dear friends,

Today, I’m sharing a glimpse into the personal journey that shapes us all, touching on the internal battles we face in pursuit of our dreams.

There’s a voice within many of us that whispers of inadequacy. I’m no stranger to it. Yes, we’re all a collection of imperfections, each with our own set of cracks and flaws.

In a recent interview I listened to, Dr. Jordan Peterson, speaking with Chris Williamson, voiced a powerful sentiment: we’re bound by a moral duty to give life everything we’ve got. The world can indeed be a harsh place, and in navigating its trials, offering anything less than our best might leave us with bitterness and resentment, shadows that could turn us into forces of darkness.

I choose light. This choice means embracing life’s adventure and confronting my fears each day.

Returning to France after years in the States meant stepping out of my comfort zone and shedding my old skin. The business landscape here is familiar yet foreign, my previous two decades steeped in American ways.

Now, facing novelty at every turn presents its challenges, especially when you’ve lived enough to not be called ‘a spring chicken.’ It’s in this newness that the temptation to feel misplaced, unwelcome, or fraudulent creeps in, whispering that everything is too complex, too new.

Yet, life is a tapestry woven with adversity and joy, encounters with incredible souls, and some who may not want you here. These experiences slice through naivety and summon our courage.

So we must recognize that, despite life’s apparent brutality, we’re called to “fight the good fight.” I’ve been inspired by tales of photographers who, despite early criticism, pursued their art and became renowned in their field.

Distinguishing between fantasy and reality is key, yet if passion burns within you, and self-doubt and pride are the only hurdles in your path, then commit to the hard work. Learn, explore, and advance courageously toward your aspirations. Either you’ll achieve your dreams, or you’ll discover something on your path that was meant solely for you.

I invite you to share your stories of adversity and triumph in the comments. How have you faced and overcome the challenges in your journey? As always, I’ll leave you with a few snapshots of my cherished Paris, the city that continually inspires my reinvention and fuels my passion.

Until next time, mes amis!

Caroline
